In this article, you’ll learn five practical conclusion approaches that match the five main IELTS question types, helping you close your essay with clarity, confidence, and structure.

How the 5 conclusion approaches are applied to each question type

1. Opinion essays

Examiners expect your stance to be very clear at the end and logically linked to the reasons you gave.​

2. Advantages–disadvantages essays

You must give your judgement, not just list pros and cons.​

3. Problem–solution essays

Band 7 conclusions often show how the problems and solutions fit into one overall strategy and give a realistic recommendation.​

5. Two‑part / double‑question essays

Coherence is tested strongly in these essays; the conclusion proves you have answered both questions clearly and linked them.​
