  • Bundaberg Hospital provides a range of services including emergency, surgical, mental health and specialist clinics. It is the main referral hospital for rural facilities.
  • Hervey Bay Hospital is the major referrer hospital for the Wide Bay region providing a range of services including emergency, surgical, maternity, mental health and specialist outpatient clinics.
  • Rockhampton Hospital is the main referral hospital for Central Queensland providing a range of services including emergency, surgical, mental health, maternity, and specialist outpatient clinics.
  • Toowoomba Hospital offers emergency, specialist surgical, mental health, allied health, and specialist outpatient clinics.
  • Ipswich Hospital offers a range of services, including surgery, palliative care, rehabilitation and mental health.

  • Princess Alexandra Hospital provides emergency, medical, mental health and surgical services, including liver and kidney transplant.
  • Greenslopes Private Hospital is Queensland’s largest private hospital and renowned as a world-class tertiary medical facility offering the latest treatments and first-class service to the patients.
  • Mater Hospital Brisbane provides a wide range of adult surgical, medical and cancer services to the public. Their Brisbane-based team of specialists are recognised for their surgical expertise in women’s health, orthopaedics, urology, ophthalmology, vascular surgery, oral and faciomaxillary surgery, colorectal surgery, plastic surgery, ear, nose and throat surgery and dermatology.

c. How is clinical placement going to be for the students?

The clinical placement will take place from Year 3 to Year 4 with its own focus as below:

  • Year 3
    • spend four days a week in clinical placements either in eight-week blocks or longitudinal clinical clerkships
    • gain hospital experience with people at all stages of life
  • Year 4
    • focus on the management of emergency and complex chronic conditions both in hospitals and in general practice
    • be an active pre-intern member of a clinical team
    • Semester 1: 20% structured learning, 80% clinical exposure
    • Semester 2: 10% structured learning, and 90% clinical exposure

d. What is the course structure?

The 4-year course comprises the following:

  • Year 1
    • Learn the Foundations of Medicine including the fundamental concepts of medical sciences, clinical and professional skills
    • Join a 'learning community' which is geographically based bringing together students, academics, clinical teachers and professional staff
    • One day a week of clinically relevant experience including simulations, small group clinical coaching and hospital/ community visits
  • Year 2
    • Spend up to two days a week in a clinical setting
    • Develop the clinical and professional skills through clinical coaching, case-based learning and longitudinal clinical placements in the community and hospital
    • build an unique medical degree through a scholarly choice elective
  • Year 3
    • Undertake clinical placements
    • Have one day a week of formal structured teaching providing core material to supplement the clinical experience
  • Year 4
    • Undertake clinical placements
    • Focus on complex presentations and emergency care in hospital and community setting

University of Queensland Doctor of Medicine Interview 2027

The multiple mini-interviews (MMIs) which are held via video conferencing will be used to assess the applicants’ personal qualities and values. The MMI format consists of 8 interview stations and the interviewees will meet with a different assessor at each station. Each assessor will give the interviewees a score that will contribute to the overall admissions rank. For each station, there will be 2 minutes to read the station scenario displayed on screen and 7 minutes to answer the questions.
